The Mongols gained fame in the 13th century when under Chinggis KHAN they conquered a huge Eurasian empire. After his death the empire was divided into several powerful Mongol states, but these broke apart in the 14th century. The Mongols eventually retired to their original steppe homelands.

 

 

 

Today; Mongolia (Mongolian; Монгол улс) is the world's second-largest landlocked country after Kazakhstan. It is typically classified as being a part of East Asia, although sometimes it is considered part of Central Asia, and the northern rim of historical Mongolia extends into North Asia. It is bordered by Russia to the north and China to the south.. Its capital and largest city is Ulan Bator. (Ulaanbaatar).

The “Globetrucker” non-profit association, which was created in Bougy-Villars, Switzerland on January 22nd, 2002, has 4 principal goals (as specified in the statutes):

 

  • To road transport humanitarian, mainly educational goods by truck for the benefit of children in developing countries;

  • To use this project to communicate a positive message with regard to education and especially road safety;

  • To collect funds, educational material, as well as to find partners and volunteers willing to participate in the Globetrucker project;

  • To stimulate and create an exchange of ideas between schools and pupils of different cultures;   

 

 

These pages will show one of those trips.

Starting in Bougy-Villars, Switzerland, and terminating in Ulan-Bator, Mongolia. Then returning to Switzerland.

 

 


 

On the way to Moscow, stopping at a truck stop you can see that American brand of trucks travel the area also.

 

 After leaving Moscow, (Centre Photo) met up with a convoy heading west. (Right Photo) Shortly after that, a serious truck accident blocking a lane.

Novosibirsk, Siberia is one of the biggest cities in Russia and considered the third largest city after Moscow and St. Petersburg and the biggest one behind the Ural. It's situated right in the middle of Russia.

In 1993 Novosibirsk celebrated it's 100th anniversary and it's growing rate is so high, that they call the city the Russian Chicago.

Passing through a Siberian Village, and a rain storm before arriving at Perm, the most Eastern city of Europe, and therefore its province is often referred to as Eurasia. Having a population of 1.2 million, Perm' is the 6th largest city in Russia and the second largest in the Urals.

 


 

Krasnoyarsk (Russian: Красноярск) is the administrative center of  Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia, and the third largest city in Siberia.

TRANS SIBERIAN HIGHWAY

 

Near Lake Baikal in Southern Siberia and near Irkutsk, you will find cooked food and fresh fruit for sale by the locals on the side of the road.

 


 

They just had to stop and check out this old KRAZ, X-army truck.

Manufactured years 1965 - 1990's in Kremenchuk Ukraine. Heavy Truck for special loads over difficult Terrain. Types including Troop - Tow Tractor - Crane - Bridge Layer - SAM - Radio - Workshop Repair.

 


 

A necessary fuel stop is made at Ulan Ude

Ulan Ude, the capital of Buryatia, is located in the middle of vast Siberian steppes, on the 5640th kilometer of the Trans-Siberian railway.

(Left Photo) KAMAZ assembled their first truck model in February 1976 and now, 30 years later, the heavy duty models are exported to many countries including Eastern Europe, China and North Africa. Note the exhaust on this model is up front, away from the pressure vessel. (trailer)
