Sam Benfield Steele of the Northwest Mounted Police (now; Royal Canadian Mounted Police) was brought in to quell a dispute, and  possible uprising between the Indians and whites. He settled the problem and the people of Galbraith's Ferry partitioned the government to change the town name to Fort Steele, in honour of Samuel Steel's achievement.

Trucking in the Crows Nest Pass ---

The trucks in use today are just a little bit bigger and better than what our great grandfathers had to work with.

SPARWOOD & THE CROWS NEST PASS

A  RETIRED COAL DIGGER

The Terex Titan was a massive Canadian earth-hauling lorry prototype built by the Terex Corporation of General Motors. It had an empty weight of 235 tonnes, and a maximum loaded weight of 550 tonnes. It was driven by a 3300 hp (2,460 kW) engine. It is 66 feet (20 m) long and 22.6 feet (6.9 m) tall. It is 56 feet (17.1 m) tall with the dump box extended. Built in late 1974 at GM's London, Ontario, Canada Plant, it was to undergo 12 months testing in California. In 1978, it was assembled in Sparwood, BC for Kiaser Resources Ltd. It was retired from service at a coal mine in 1990 and is now located in Sparwood, BC.

To answer a possible question in advance; --- The trailer in the right photo, is not dragging on the ground, it has a rear single axle. It is a rare style for specific loads.

Mark is headed east again, leaving the Crows Nest Pass, and is headed down into the foothills of Alberta, and across 1,600 km. (1,000 mi.) of prairies, and then into the granite hills of Northern Ontario.
