Jan Wijers -
How I Got Started

Hello, here's a photo taken in 1979 in Ontario, Canada. During a holiday we visited a sand and gravel company. This was the first ride in a B Mack I ever made. I guess from this point my love for Mack trucks started!!!

Being a farm tractor and truck fan, it was possible that I would either be a farmer, or a truck driver when I grew up. My interest in trucks kept growing, so after finishing school in 1991 I became a truck driver.

I started driving for the company called VIT TRUCKING SERVICE. My first truck was a DAF 2100, 210 hp straight truck. Most of the trips took me to France (Paris) and Germany. After a few years I got a truck and trailer at the same company it was a Mercedes, model 1934, 340 hp. The truck has a semi automatic gearbox called EPS (electronic power shift) Most of the trips I made with this truck took me to the Mercedes plant in Germany; I had to take parts to the plant.

My love for the Mack trucks was still there so when I was offered a job to drive a Mack Ultra-liner I was very happy and started to drive for Jansen in 1995. The 350 hp truck took me mainly to France. But I also made a trip to Spain. I had to take some equipment sold on a Ritchie Bross auction to Spain. The return load was an old Schlumberger International which I loaded in the south of France. I guess this was the best trip I ever made!!

What more could you wish... driving a big Mack truck to places you never have been! Unfortunately this job didn't work out as we (Mr. Jansen and myself) had hoped.

So as I searched for another job, I got lucky. Mr. Hunnekes was looking for a driver for their Superliner Mack, and I got the job. So here I was again driving a Mack! This time the truck had a V8 450 hp!! I had to take equipment to construction sites in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Driving this big machine was really great; I could get around in small towns to because all axles on the low boy are steer axles. For loading and unloading the gooseneck could be removed.

When all bulldozers cranes etc. was at the construction sites there was little work for me as a truck driver so this job didn't work out either, but I had lots of fun driving the Mack. So sometime later in 1995 I got back with my "old" boss.

In the time I had been away there where some changes made, the companies name was now VIT FREIGHT SERVICE and the color of the trucks changed from white to black. This time I got an almost new Scania R 124 which had 400 hp. The trips I made took me again to Germany, Belgium and France. I also had to haul containers sometimes as you can see in the photo.

From the end of 1995 till early 1999 I worked for this company until the company closed, going bankrupt in 1999. Before this, in 1997 my dream had come true! I was able to get a Mack B-61 from Canada, as shown in the Guest Photo pages.

In 1999 I started to drive for a company called Coenen. The transport they do was new to me, and seeing that I had never driven a reefer truck before, I was about to gain a new experience.

At the moment I don't have "my own truck" at this company.

So you can see here a DAF straight truck that I drive (sometimes also with a pup trailer), and there's also a photo of a DAF truck and trailer. The tractor/trailer is the newest truck at the company it has a 430 hp engine and an automatic gearbox. (More and more companies are changing to automatics these days)

Most trips I make here are in The Netherlands and Belgium.

So this is (in short) my trucking story so far. Till later yours Jan Wijers
