Chevrolet SPARTAN 120 Tractor

Note;

These big USA trucks were special in the sense that their bodywork style was directed to the eye of the buyer. These 2 national giants of the industry, FORD & GM were in competition with each other to win over the lion's share of the market. It was a fashion designers war that carried on year after year.

In the years 1950 through the 1960's, the  USA FORD  was still very present in our regions. However "the large" carriers were not legion there. This F-920 9,2 ton of payload, equipped with 1100x20 tires, powered with a V8 gasoline engine, King Cargo liner of 145cv, transmission, 5 speed crash box (not synchro), etc… was the largest model imported at the time.

Most models have been F-5 (F500), F-6 (F600) and a little F-7 (F700) or F-8 (F800).

It has been a very long time that I have dreamed of finding one of these extremely rare survivors here in Belgium. Recently, after many years of searching I finally had the chance. This F-920 is currently in the course of restoration at home.

NOTE;

Undoubtedly it was one of most beautiful tractors of its time. Equipped with a dominating style, it evokes a particular nostalgia, a respect of the beautiful things, I have to draw it!!! Why did a manufacturer worthy of such achievements have to sink in anonymity by amalgamating with M.A.N.?

Berliet TLM.10

In 1917, Berliet started to build trucks for the French Army. The company produced 40 trucks a day. Passenger car production ceased in 1939 and after World War II, the company produced trucks only.

In 1967, Berliet was taken over by Citroen.

By this time, Michelin owned both Citroen and Berliet. However, after the 1973 oil crisis, Michelin decided to divest itself of these two companies in order to concentrate on its tire business. Thus, in 1974 Berliet was sold to Renault. Eventually the Berliet name was phased out and another French marque came to an end. --- Historical nformation from Wikipedia.

It was in 1960 that Unic introduced their M625 V8 diesel using Saurer fuel injection. In 1969 a higher-rated version, the 14.9 litre/909cu in V855 developing 340bhp, was announced. Between 1971 and 1973 production of Unic trucks was transferred from Puteaux, France to Trappes, and in 1975 it became part of the newly formed Iveco Group. The Unic name was phased out in the early 1980s.
